Corky
My mom came home one day and told us about the cutest "teddy
bear" dog that she had seen at her school. Her friend had told her
about a website where you could rescue Wheaten terriers. Soon after
I looked up the website, Wheatens in Need, I saw the "teddy bear"
dogs my mom had talked so much about. I fell in love. I saw that you
could fill out an application to adopt one and began to fill it out.
About 3 weeks later we received a phone call from a woman named
Anne, who was a foster mom for Wheatens In Need. Anne was fostering
a Wheaten, and said she had read our application and wanted to know
if our family would go on a "meet and greet" at a local park.
A week later, my family and I went to the park to meet Anne, her
husband, and "Corky" the Soft-Coated Wheaten Terrier. She was the
cutest dog I have ever seen. Anne had told us that "Corky" was about
a year old and told my brother and I to go walk "Corky" around.
"Corky" was so excited to be with my brother and me. I felt like I
had known her for weeks already, when I had only just met her. We
all spent another few hours getting to know one another at the park.
Anne said she would give us a call if we were selected to adopt
"Corky."
Less than a week later my mom received a call from Anne saying that
they had chosen us to adopt "Corky"!!! Oh my gosh! We were SO
excited to go pick her up from their house!!! I think that was the
most exciting day of my life. We bought Corky new toys and spent
time with her! I had finally gotten my "teddy bear" dog!! We changed
her name to "Bella."
I felt like I've known Bella my whole life. She is what my mom
calls, "the dream dog." She is so appreciative of everything. It
took her about 2 weeks to adjust to my family and living in our
house. We have had Bella for about two years now. She goes
everywhere with us. She has the greatest personality you could ever
imagine from a dog. I love her to death and my family does too.
We spent the summer of 2008 with her and even though she was sad
when everyone started back to school and work in September. She is
always such a joy to come home too. Her little tail does not stop
wagging when she sees us all together. We even spent our first
Christmas 2008 with her in Mammoth where she became obsessed with
playing in the snow and trying to catch snowballs that we tossed to
her. She has been to my moms Second Grade classroom where the kids
about die when they see her prance into the room. She has been to
Del Mar dog beach with my family where she runs around with all the
other dogs. We have the funniest video of her at the beach because
no other dog can catch her because she is so fast!! She has weekly
play-dates at our local groomer, Tammy's salon. Her best friend is
named Kenya (Tammy's dog) and every Thursday morning around 9am she
starts to whine by the door because its been a routine for about two
years. My dad always laughs because he thinks its funny how she
knows exactly what day it is when Thursday rolls around. She goes
wild in the car on the way to the groomers and runs inside because
she can't wait to start playing!!
My family is so happy and thankful that we were picked to have
her in our lives. I couldn't imagine my life without Bella. I'm so
beyond attached to her. She has a heart of gold because whenever
someone is upset or sad she knows. The other day I was crying
because I was so stressed out with homework and Bella heard me and
walked into my room, she went straight up to me and licked me on my
face and started wagging her tail. She wouldn't leave my room until
I was ok. When she did leave it was only to bring her little
dinosaur bone back to my room to show me.
Bella has even been blessed at the Festival of the Bells at our
church. She is the most loving dog and who ever meets her falls in
love with her. She is such a blessing in my life.
Wheatens in Need is a wonderful organization because it puts
these adorable and loving dogs into homes where they will be loved
forever. My family and I will always be so thankful to this
organization for giving us Bella. Everyone should have a "teddy
bear" dog to bring home and love and I am so happy I finally got
mine.
